Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) blacklists Kenyans who have defaulted their loans. This denies the loan defaulters an opportunity to apply for other loans.

It's so sad how most Kenyans don't know whether they have been backlisted by CRB or not. 

Worry not because today we are going to share with you a detailed procedure on how to check your CRB status online with accredited institutions like Metropol, Transunion and CreditInfo. They have been given the mandate to oversee loans in Kenya. 

1. How to check your CRB status online in Kenya with Metropol
  • Dial *433# on your mobile phone.
  • You will receive a text from Metropol telling you to pay a registration fee of Ksh. 100 so that you can be able to get a free credit report every year.
  • To pay the registration fee, go to your sim toolkit and click on the Mpesa menu.
  • Go to Lipa na Mpesa and click on Pay Bill
  • On the business number section enter 220388
  • On the account number section enter your National ID Number
  • On the amount number section enter 100 and click OK.
  • Key in your Mpesa PIN number and click OK
  • You will receive a confirmation message followed by another text with your login details and link which you will use to access your annual free credit report.

2. How to check your CRB status online in Kenya with TransUnion
  • Go to compose message on your cellphone
  • Write your full names and send them to 21272
  • Key in your National ID number
  • Select CC for credit status
After completing the registration process, send your full names to 21272 so that you can be able to access your annual free credit report.

Alternatively, you can also access your credit report using the TransUnion CRB application or their website.

3. How to check your CRB status online in Kenya with CreditInfo

CreditInfo avails credit report  to Kenyans free of charge once every year. If you want to access it again within a span of one year, then you will have to pay a fee of Ksh. 3500.
  • To access your annual free credit report go to https://ke.creditinfo.com/credit-report-requests/
  • Enter your full names as they appear on your National ID
  • Enter your National ID number
  • Enter your phone number
  • Enter your email address
  • Confirm your email address
  • Enter your residential address
  • Select your preferred service, whether its Credit Report or Monitoring 1200 shillings annual (12 months) subscription. 
  • On the consumer consent section select an option
  • Enter comments if any.
  • Upload a photo of your National ID
  • State your purpose for applying for a credit report and click on the submit button.
